What instrument are you? I'm trumpet.

Bass clarinet.

I love bass clarinet! We only have one in our band, so the band director will just randomly be like "Kyle, you're the only bass clarinet and I can't hear you. Play louder!"

I'm one of four who play it at my school, but one of two in the band I'm in. One of the others has recently switched to oboe for concert purposes, so we're down to three who play it full-time.

It's hard to make it sound louder, because you need to put so much more air through the instrument in order to do so.

I can imagine. Like, for flute, you're using tons of air, but it's really high pitched, so you can hear it anyway. Bass clarinet is lower, so you have to use tons of air to make it work, plus the dynamic markings....

Hey, I've got an idea. How about I create a thread for band somewhere on the forums?

Yay, for band geeks! (I should make a sig...) And with flute, you aren't using that much air, you're just pushing a small amount of air out faster than usual (through a smaller opening). Oboe is easy, and viola is awesome!
